Advocacy

We believe in standing up to injustice, especially bigotry and oppression.

We are the co-owners of Syndicate Wine Bar in Beaverton, Oregon. We were raised to speak up when we see or hear something that isn’t right.

We are now at an inflection point in society, that history will judge as a moment when it came down to those who took action, versus those who sat by and did nothing.

In the creation of Resilience Wines, it is so much more than “just” a wine brand (though that takes a lot of effort on its own). It is more than a business or winery (that’s in the works, also).

We envision it as a platform for positive social change, using human connection, providing information and resources to assist marginalized communities or at-risk groups by giving a voice to their stories, and helping fund causes, services, and nonprofits that will directly help them.

It’s a lot to take on, and it will take some time to fully build this out. Through peaceful witness, powerful voices, and physical connection, this is about finding resilience within each of us.

Public Testimony

“Written statements are one thing, but nothing compares to someone taking time out of work to be here, and telling us exactly what you have seen and are concerned about. Thank you.” – Beaverton City Councilor

Testifying before your elected leaders is one of the most powerful things you can do as a citizen to give voice to issues of concern.

As business owners, community members, advocates for justice, educators, and people with morals, we are compelled to speak from the heart about issues in our community.

We have given public comment to Beaverton City Council many times over the years, about many issues.

Most recently, ICE came to our front door, literally, in late 2025 and right in front of our security cameras, abducted a U.S. citizen. That was it.

We testified before City Council on January 6, 2026 about this, and other documented aggressive behavior by ICE in our community, and pressed the City to remember its obligations as a Sanctuary City to not in any way enable or facilitate ICE using public resources.

As of January 20, 2026, City Council passed a resolution codifying its obligations therein, and as part of it are discussing use of local Police to pull over Federal agents to confirm their identity and legitimacy.

What role we may or may not have played in this, we don’t yet know, but the look Council gave us on January 6 said they were listening, and 14 days later, they took this step.

ICE is not welcome here.
We protect each other!
We stand with immigrant families

“Those posters in your window won’t do anything. If you stand in their way you will lose your liquor license.” – A random, threatening online comment we received.

There’s always a critic. To them, we say: You are wrong.

We received a set of posters from the lovely folks over at PIRC Oregon (Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition). We put them in the windows of our brick and mortar business (Syndicate Wine Bar) up as soon as we learned about PIRC.

The posters may not stop Federal agents from entering the public spaces of our business, but they serve a higher purpose.

They tell the world how we feel about ICE.

They tell ICE we see exactly what they are doing and we will not be quiet about it.

They tell our staff and patrons we will defend their rights against ICE abuse.

Also, as a protected right under Oregon law, they remind ICE we will NOT serve them or their sympathizers.

We were raised on the values of pacifism. There is much power in giving witness and standing up to authority, peacefully.

Allyship is about using one’s privilege in society to help over voices be heard. We are allies of our immigrant community, and proudly stand with our neighbors in resilience against ICE.
